In 1999, the Conservation Fund established the Green Infrastructure Leadership Program to help land conservation experts and their allies develop capabilities in strategic conservation actions that are proactive, comprehensive, well integrated, and applied at various scales. The program is a collaborative effort between the Fund and a number of public and private partners.

The Conservation Fund and the Surdna Foundation assisted in the creation of The Greeninfrastructure.net website, which was developed by USDA Cooperative Forestry and the Surdna Foundation with support from USDA’s Forest Service.

The Green Infrastructure Work Group, which includes local, state, and federal government agencies as well as nongovernmental organizations that first met in August 1999 to start developing a training course to help communities and their partners introduce green infrastructure into local and regional plans and community decisions.
