Virginia Green Infrastructure Scoping Study

Description:

The Conservation Fund was given funding by the Virginia Department of Forestry’s Urban and Community Forestry Assistance Program in 2002 to examine the institutional capacity, support, and structure for a green infrastructure network. The Fund examined current institution capacity, support, and structure within the state government as well as programs and resources accessible from other public and private organizations operating across Virginia.

The study’s main result is a set of recommendations for the Commonwealth of Virginia, the Virginia Department of Forestry (DOF), and other state agencies on how to best develop a programmatic framework for strategic conservation in the Commonwealth.

“Using a Green Infrastructure Approach to Conserving and Managing the Commonwealth’s Natural Areas, Working Landscapes, Open Spaces, and Other Critical Resources” is the name of this initiative.
