The mission of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation is to “conserve, improve, and protect” New York’s natural resources and environment while also preventing, abating, and controlling water, land, and air pollution in order to “improve the health, safety, and well-being” of people in the state.

The objective of the EPA is to ensure that all Americans have clean water and air, as well as a healthy environment in which to live. The EPA’s aim is to achieve this goal through the simultaneous pursuit of environmental quality, public health, financial prosperity, and social justice, including environmental justice and individual empowerment in making environmental decisions that impact their lives.
