NARC promotes the establishment of multi-purpose, multi-jurisdictional regional councils (RCs) and metropolitan planning organizations (MPOs), which advocate for the formation of local communities through representation. These groups help local elected officials and community leaders develop similar plans to address big concerns such as transportation, economic growth, homeland security, and environmental concerns
NARC is a unique organization made up of elected officials, RCs, and MPOs from throughout the country. There are 35,276 RCs in the United States (cities, townships, etc). NARC’s membership of nearly 250 organizations includes about 97 percent of the counties and 99 percent of the population in the United States.
NARC encourages and supports its members in integrating natural infrastructure into their regional development efforts. NARC offers training on ecologically beneficial green infrastructure at its national conferences, distributes information on green infrastructure and best practices tailored to regions, and gives mini-grants to Regional Centers of Excellence in environmentally beneficial green infrastructure and Landcare.
